This is a brief note to share a bit of a post-election update. I know for me it has been a super intense week, between sleep deprivation, processing my own feelings about the election, and supporting colleagues, students, and community members to process the impact and make sense of the results. I have encountered a wide range of sentiments, from disbelief and despair, to fear and anger, to a sense that this is just more of the same. My sense is that there is an opportunity here for profound action and commitments to be made in efforts towards global healing and transformation. So, I'm writing for two reasons, one is to share with you a prayer that I wrote early Wednesday morning, and the other is to invite local folks to a healing action at Hilltown Yoga next Sunday morning.
Our fates are linked and for me spiritual transformation is intricately tied up with our collective social transformation. It is my opinion, and I know there are some that agree and some that disagree, that yoga teachers and other spiritual teachers cannot stay silent. Our studio spaces should become places for community transformation, healing from injustice, and even social action.
Yours in solidarity and transformation, Loretta
A Post-Election Healing Action
You are invited to a Healing Action next Sunday, November 20 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. to be held at Hilltown Yoga in Westerlo, NY. The event is free though I am asking you to bring a monetary donation which will be split between the Standing Rock camp and Planned Parenthood, and something to share at the potluck lunch. You can find more information and sign up here. I'd love to see you there!
A Post-Election Prayer
May we build bridges and heal ourselves, our sisters and brothers
May we honor the earth whose voice has been silenced
May our communities be places of refuge where difference is celebrated and cooperation is our currency
May we gather our resources, arm in arm, as we stand in our own power
May our actions, resistance, and creativity be our prayers
May we take advantage of the night as we prepare for the dawn of a new day
